St Paul's Cathedral - London (Feb 2024)

St Paul's Cathedral - London feb 16, 2024

The London Bishop's residence is St. Paul's Cathedral, an Anglican cathedral located in London, England. The Diocese of London's mother church is the cathedral. Situated at the summit of Ludgate Hill, the City of London is home to it. It was originally dedicated in honour of Paul the Apostle when the original church was established here in AD 604.The current building was planned in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren and finished in 1710. It is a Grade I listed construction. Rebuilding the cathedral was a part of a larger reconstruction project that was started in the wake of the Great Fire of London.

Paul's Walk and St. Paul's Churchyard, which is home to St. Paul's Cross, were major hubs for mediaeval and early modern London, and the earlier Gothic cathedral known as Old St. Paul's Cathedral was mostly destroyed in the Great Fire.

One of London's most well-known and identifiable landmarks is the cathedral. For more than three centuries, its dome has dominated the skyline, encircled by the spires of the churches in Wren's City. From 1710 to 1963, standing at 365 feet (111 metres) high, it was the highest structure in London. It remains one of the world's tallest domes.

After Liverpool Cathedral, St. Paul's is the second-largest church structure in the United Kingdom by area.

I clicked these photos using the canon EOS 1DXMKIII with the 24-70 f 2.8 L II USM lens. I had to pay entry ticket GBP 25 and it took me 2 hours to view the entire cathedral , even climbing the top of the dome (not recommended for people with a weak heart) and clicked cityscape photos which I will upload soon.

note that entry is free when church service is on, but no photography (mobile or camera) is allowed at that time.
